ADVICE AND INFORMATION

ADOPTING AN AKITA, AN IMPORTANT DECISION

As owners and breeders of American Akitas for 30 years, we are very familiar with the physical and behavioral characteristics of the breed. In doing so, we are able to keep you well informed.

Adopting a primitive type dog requires a lot of thought.

ELEMENTS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION

Long used as a fighting dog, the American Akita should be watched in the presence of other dogs. Moreover, adult males will tend to want to dominate other males too close to them who will be insistent. Naturally suspicious of foreigners, the American Akita should be socialized from an early age, and up to a year old. The puppy should visit as many different places as possible, both quiet and noisy, and learn to be handled by several people. Also, it is not recommended to adopt an American Akita if you have young preschool children and are inexperienced with this type of dog breed.

A hunter and protector at heart, the American Akita acts on instinct, which can lead him to run away. And it will be difficult to call him back, his instinct being stronger than just obeying you. Being a formidable hunter, his predation instinct is very strong at the sight of animals, particularly the smallest species such as small dogs, cats, raccoons, rats, rabbits/hares, etc...

That said, he is a courageous, robust, calm, patient, reserved and self-sufficient dog. As this is a Nordic breed, he likes cool temperatures. He is even very resistant to cold. Another plus point is that he doesn't tend to bark unnecessarily.

The owner of an American Akita must be able to show a certain firmness while demonstrating great gentleness. This dog will not obey the orders of a stranger. In the American Akita, the hierarchy in the pack (family) is very important. He will also have to quickly identify who is the leader of the family, otherwise he will feel the need to try to become this leader, which will accentuate his primitive protective and predatory instincts, which we absolutely do not want.He is therefore very loyal to his whole family but will obey only whomever he recognizes as being a Leader, and he is particularly affectionate with the members of his family.

That said, the Akita's different personality traits will be found in purebred to varying degrees. Some will be more of a runaway but less dominant towards other dogs, and some will be more protective of their family and less of a runaway.

HEALTH GUARANTEE

RESPECTING THE BREED IS OUR PRIORITY

As we run an ethical breeding, our producers pass all the health tests recommended for the Akita breed : X-rays of the hips, knees and patellas, examination of the eyes by an ophthalmologist, and analysis of their thyroid gland. We do these tests because we want to avoid breeding dogs with genetic defects or with health problems. It is for this reason that we can offer a 2 year guarantee against hereditary diseases confirmed by a veterinarian.

Despite all our precautions, unforeseen events can occur, it is Nature, we do not offer an inert merchandise, easily replaced, but a living being who will be part of the family.

We make sure to provide ongoing support to the adoptive families of our American Akitas throughout their lifetimes.
